Social care workers
Because of the daily and often long-standing involvement of carers with those they care for, they are uniquely placed sometimes to judge when “things are not quite right”.
This might be a:
- A sudden change in health
- A “new friend” who seems to be taking too close an interest
- A realisation that unexplained changes in finances have occurred
Obviously, you will need consent of the cared-for person to disclose personal details.
True story
A care worker informally and anonymously discussed concerns with me about an elderly lady and her money. Eventually, financial abuse was exposed and an application made to the Court of Protection for adequate management of the lady’s money.
